Expression of VEGF - C in Oral Precancerous Lesions and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objectives: Oral squamous cell cacrcinoma(OSCC) comprises 90% of all oral cancers and 16-62% of OSCC develop from oral premalignant lesions (OPLs). Lymph node metastasis is a major prognostic indicator for OSCC progression. It has been revealed that lymphangiogenic growth factor VEGF-C plays an important role in invasion and nodal metastasis of cancer cells. This study was performed to investigate the VEGF-C expression and its clinical significance in OPLs and OSCC. Methods: The expression levels of VEGF-C was determined immunohistochemically in 10 OPLs cases and 20 OSCC cases and correlations between VEGF-C expression and clinicopathological parameters and prognosis were analyzed. Results: The statistical analysis revealed high significant correlation between expression of VEGF-C (r =0.737, p=0.015) and degree of dysplasia in OPLs. Also correlations between VEGF-C expression and tumor size(r =0.533, p=0.016),lymph node metastasis(r =0,686, p =0.001),clinical stage of OSCC (r =0.466, p=0.038) showed high significant correlation. Conclusions: These results suggest that VEGF-C may play an important role in the process of carcinogenesis and can be a strong predictor of lymph node metastasis in OSCC.

Vascular endothelial growth factor expression and vascular densi-ty in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC): A study on clinical and histopathologic significance
Background: New blood vessels formation is a critical step in tumor progression. Vascular density affects the clinical outcome and prognosis of malignant tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) expression and vascular density with the clinical and histopathologic features in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).  ...

Background:Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, which is highly invasive. Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is the low-grade form of SCC. Epithelial dysplasia (ED) also has a malignant potential. This immunohistochemical (IHC) study aimed to assess angiogenesis and the presence of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in SCC, VC and ED to determi...

Background:Oral lichen planus (OLP) is considered as a potentially malignant disorder and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) may play a key role in cancer development. The aim of this study was to compare serum and saliva VEGF among patients with OLP, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and a healthy control group. Methods:A cross sectional study was pe...

Background & Aims: Leukoplakia is the most common premalignant or potentially malignant lesion of the oral mucosa and its potentiality for malignant transformation is unpredictable. The aim of the present study was to evaluate p53 expression in normal oral epithelium, leukoplakia and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The standard Biotin streptavaidin peroxidase immunohistochemical staining...
متن کاملAssessment of Bax and Bcl-2 Immunoexpression in Patients with Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of probable immune-based etiology. The pathogenesis of LP is unclear, but apoptotic changes in epidermal (epithelial) cells have been reported. Destruction of the basal cell layer is observed and many changes in cell proliferation, cell repair and cell death occur in the injured mucosal epithelium. The aim of this study was to evaluate and co...
